Celebrate July 4th in Freedom’s Backyard!

PHILADELPHIA - Historic Germantown hosts Independence Day on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 from 11:00AM-4:00PM.  The day of free programming happens at five Historic Germantown member sites: Stenton, Hood Cemetery, Concord School & Upper Burial Ground, Cliveden and Johnson House.  The celebration consists of free tours, activities for children, live music, reenactors, and the annual ringing of the historic Concord School bell.  Join us at five sites that were here when the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776!  All events are FREE and open to the public.

Schedule of Events

Johnson House, 11 AM - 4 PM (tours): (6309 Germantown Avenue)
Tour one of the only remaining Underground Railroad sites and explore what liberty can mean to different people.

Stenton, 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM (special event): (4601 N. 18th Street)
Visit Stenton for hot dogs, make your own ice cream, a flag-themed fan activity, games and more! This program will feature Benjamin Franklin, a good friend of James Logan and music by Run of the Mill String Band.

Concord School House & Upper Burying Ground, 11 AM- 4:00 PM (tours): (6309 Germantown Avenue) Ring Out Freedom! 2 PM: Ceremony and bell-ringing to mark Independence Day and honor Revolutionary War soldiers and Freedom Stories: performance by storytellers Vernyce Dannells and Jackie Jonas.

Cliveden, 12 PM - 4 PM (tours): (6401 Germantown Avenue)
Visit the site of the 1777 Battle of Germantown, will be open for tours and interactive children's activities.

Hood Cemetery, 1 PM - 3 PM (tours): (4901 Germantown Avenue)
Take this opportunity to visit the Hood Cemetery for a tour and to honor the graves of soldiers from many of our nation's historic conflicts - the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812 and the Civil War.
