The mission of the Germantown Mennonite Historic Trust is to preserve and maintain the historic 1770 Germantown Mennonite Meetinghouse, its adjacent cemetery and grounds, and other historical materials related to North America's first permanent Mennonite settlement, including the table upon which the first protest against slavery in the New World was signed in 1688. Today, GMHT researches and interprets Germantown's role as the "Gateway of North American Mennonitism" in a manner that gives an authentic perspective to the history, search for freedom, faith and witness of Mennonites in Germantown, and works with the community and beyond to provide programs, tours and conferences.
